Roanoke rolls to 85-52 victory over Eastern

SALEM, Va. - The Roanoke College women's basketball opened their home slate with an 85-52 win over Eastern on day one of the Jean Beamer Tip-Off Classic.

How It Happened 

  • The Maroons broke away earliy but were reeled back in by Eastern, ending the quarter with just a one point advantage. 

  • Roanoke came out swinging in the second quarter though, outscoring the Eagles 15-3 in the first six minutes. RC went into the half with a 43-24 lead. 

  • The Maroons got everyone involved in the second half and outscored Eastern 21-14 in both the third and fourth quarters to secure their second win of the season. 
     

Notes and Notables 

  • The Maroons had four players hit double digit points in the contest. 

  • Ashley Fowler led the way with 18 points after going 6-11 from the field and 4-8 from beyond the arc. She also added two free throws to her total. 

  • Freshman Moriah Tate hit double figures for the first time in her career, tallying 13 points on the night. She went 4-7 from the field and was a perfect 3-3 from the charity stripe. 

  • Fowler and Alicea Farmer topped the team in rebounds with eight each. Laila Staples was the next closest Maroon in the category with five. 

  • Ingrid Moraes, Breuer, and Farmer had three assists each to pace RC. 

  • Roanoke went an impressive 12-18 in field goal percentage during the second quarter to help stretch their lead before the half.
