Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's soccer explodes offensively for 5-1 victory

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Five different Maroons got on the scoresheet as the Roanoke College men's soccer team rose above Randolph 5-1 in ODAC play.

How It Happened 

  • Four minutes into the game Roanoke won a pair of corners. Ed Law whipped in the second of those corners and found Will Fatzinger on the back post to take the lead. 

  • 35 minutes later Ryan Pidgeon earned a free kick in the attacking third. Justin Hill sent in a ball that was flicked on by Chase Rubincam but was saved by the keeper. However, the ball was not held onto to, and Lucas Pace finished from close range. 

  • The Maroons took advantage of another free kick opportunity in the 62nd minute. Hill put a ball over the top that deflected off the head of a Randolph defender and past the keeper's near post. 

  • Randolph got one back two minutes later after a low shot rattled off an RC defender to make it 3-1 still in the Roanoke's favor. 

  • Pidgeon received the ball at midfield from Pace and proceeded to dribble through the Randolph defense. He then fired a shot into the top right corner of the goal from the top of the 18 yard box to make it 4-1 in the 77th minute. 

  • In the 84th minute, Kyle Butcher found the ball at his feet and turned to go towards goal. He then passed it off to Carlos Lomena who got around the keeeper and finished off the goal into a wide-open net. 

Notes and Notables 

  • Fatzinger's goal was his second of the season and third of his career. 

  • Pace, Hill, and Lomena each recorded their first goal of the campaign. 

  • Pace's goal was the first game winning goal of his career while Hill's goal was the first of his time as a Maroon. 

  • Pidgeon sits at second on the team in goals with his tally bringing his season total up to four.  

  • Ed Law's assist was his second off a corner this year while Butcher's helper was his first of 2025. 

  • Rubincam picked up the first assist and point of his career on teh second goal. He also saw the most action of his young career in the game, playing 73 minutes after being subbed on in the first half. 

  • Peyton Mancini led the squad in shots with four. Pidgeon, Law, and Lomena also took multiple shots, recording two each. 

  • Denzel Marufu earns his second win of the season after completing a full 90 minutes in net for the first time this year. He made one save in the contest as well.

RC is set to take on Hampden-Sydney at Kerr Stadium on Saturday (Oct. 18). The ODAC matchup is set to kickoff at 5:00 pm.
