Maroons spread the wealth in ODAC victory

SALEM, Va. - The Roanoke College women's basketball squad rounded out their five-game home-stand with a 68-52 victory over ODAC foe Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday night.

How It Happened
 

  • Both squads took some time getting into the game but remained even through the first quarter at 8-8. 

  • Both offenses picked up steam in the second and eight different Maroons got in on the action to take a 29-27 lead at the half. 

  • Roanoke kept in rolling after the break, outscoring Virginia Wesleyan 22-15 in the third. 

  • The fourth quarter was no different as RC maintained a double-digit lead for the better part of the period and eventually brought the score to the final of 68-52. 
       

Notes and Notables 

  • The Maroons have now won five of their last seven games. 

  • The squad recorded their highest field goal percentage of the season in the contest, shooting 42.9% on the night. 

  • Roanoke's bench showed their prowess, recording 38 bench points to Virginia Wesleyan's six. 

  • Paige Breuer and Kiley Hylton both hit double-digit points in the game with Breuer totaling 12 and Hylton recording 10.  

  • Breuer was one rebound shy of a double-double to lead the team in the category. Alicea Farmer was right being her with eight boards. 

  • Farmer was active on defensive, racking up five steals in the game as well.

RC hits the road this weekend, making the trip up I-81 to face-off with Shenandoah on Saturday (Jan. 11) in a 2:00 pm contest.
