SALEM, Va. - The Roanoke College women's basketball team thwarted Averett's second-half comeback attempt to earn their first ODAC victory of the year, 68-61.

How It Happened 

• Roanoke came out strong in the first, going on an 11-0 run to start the game and eventually outscoring the Cougars 21-9 in the quarter. 

• The second was a little more back and forth between the sides, with Averett getting the last points of the half to make the score 38-23 in favor of the Maroons. 

• Averett pressed RC hard in the third quarter to narrow the margin to 49-45 going into the fourth. 

• The Maroons held strong in the fourth taking a narrow three-point edge in the quarter to bring the final to 68-61.  
     

Notes and Notables 

• Sophomore Alicea Farmer tallied the first double-double of her Roanoke career, racking up 13 points and 13 rebounds. 

• Paige Breuer paced the team in scoring yet again, totaling 17 points. 

• Farmer also added five assists and four steals to her day. She tied for the team lead in both categories with Mariah Cain. 

• Cain went a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line and reached double digit points for the fifth time this season with her 10 in the game. 

• Peyton Kirchner broke into the top 10 in the ODAC in blocks this afternoon with her three in the contest. She is currently averaging 1.3 blocks per game.
