Records: Roanoke (7-10, 3-5), Guilford (11-6, 5-4)
Location: Salem, Va. (Cregger Center)

How It Happened

  • After a slow first few minutes of the game, Roanoke got hot. They went on a 12-2 run to help go into the second with a 20-16 lead.

  • That first quarter lead would eventually prove crucial as the squads were even in scoring in the second (16 points each) and third (18 points each) quarters.

  • The third quarter also saw four lead changes with the Maroons going down by six at one point. Roanoke went into the fourth with a 54-50 lead.

  • Guilford cut the advantage and was able to tie it up with 2:22 remaining. RC was more than happy to play the free throw game though, going 7-10 from the line in those final minutes. That combined with a huge Ashley Fowler step-back jumper as the shot clock expired powered the Maroons to the 73-68 victory.
