SALEM, Va. - The Roanoke College field hockey team snagged their third straight win at home on Saturday afternoon as they took down the Hood College Blazers 1-0.

Key Moment 

• Grace Vernarelli scored her fifth goal on the season in the second period to give the Maroons a lead that they would not relinquish. 

How It Happened 

• After the defense won the ball back, Maggie Beach played the ball up the flank to a sprinting Vernarelli. The pass looked like it was intercepted but Vernarelli played through and forced the ball off the defender's stick. She then had plenty of room to run and was able to turn the goal and fire a shot into the net. 

Notes and Notables 

• Roanoke only allowed three shots in the game and no more than one per period. 

• Vernarelli has now scored in three of the last four games for the Maroons. 

• Lindsey Keyes, Tess Taloumis, and Carsyn Poppa registered shots, in addition to Vernarelli, in the contest. 

• RC had the advantage in shots, 8-3 and penalty corners, 7-3. 

• Goaltender Madison Wingerter did not have to make a save in the game.
