Big Goal-Scoring Runs Propel Roanoke Past Tigers

The Short Story: The Maroons used a huge offensive spurt in each half to claim a 14-8 ODAC victory at Hampden-Sydney.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Noah Bell scored just 31 seconds into the contest to put Roanoke ahead. Michael Leone tied things up for the Tigers midway through the opening period, but the Maroons would reel off the next six goals of the game. A pair of markers from Wyatt Whitlow made it 3-1 in RC's favor by the end of the stanza.
  • Four more Maroon tallies, including two from Luke Kammerman, stretched the lead to 7-1 by the 9:37 mark of the second quarter. But HSC answered with five consecutive goals, trimming the margin to 7-6 at halftime.
  • It was all Roanoke after the intermission. The Maroons outscored the Tigers 6-0 in the third quarter, getting five points from Luca Docking and two more goals from Whitlow in the frame to push the lead out to 13-6.
  • Sean Kennedy made it 14-6 one minute into the fourth period. RC would keep HSC off the board until late in the quarter, with two Tiger goals in the final 3:18 providing the final scoreline.
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Docking piled up eight points on the afternoon, totaling four goals and four assists. Whitlow finished with four goals, and Luke Kammerman posted a hat trick.
  • Bell and Julian Kammerman each added one goal and one assist, while Quinn Evans notched three assists.
  • Jake Brader won 16-of-23 faceoffs and registered six ground balls. Jay Frye scooped up five ground balls, while Noah Elazar and RT Williamson collected four apiece. Williamson and Brandon Solomon each caused a pair of turnovers.
  • Taylor Lewis played the full game in cage and posted 12 stops, finishing with a .600 save percentage.
  • Patrick Hanes and Ray O'Brien led the Tiger offense, with each contributing two goals and one assist. Patrick Saunders also scored twice, and Peter Smith tallied 22 saves.
  • The Maroons outshot HSC 49-38 and held a 41-25 advantage in ground balls.
