Pilat Secures 400th Win as Maroons Beat Shenandoah in ODAC Quarters

THE GAME FACTS
Score: Roanoke 16, Shenandoah 6
Location: Salem, Va.

The Short Story: No. 3 seed Roanoke beat sixth-seeded Shenandoah 16-6 in the conference quarterfinals, giving Bill Pilat '85 the 400th victory of his coaching career.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Maroons outscored the Hornets 7-0 in the first quarter and netted the first nine goals of the game, going in front 9-0 on a goal from Wyatt Whitlow with 7:50 to play in the first half. Whitlow notched four markers during the early run, which also featured the first career goal from senior defenseman Matt Jahries.
  • Shenandoah registered back-to-back goals to trim the deficit to 9-2, but tallies from Luca Docking and Julian Kammerman in the final minute of the second period gave RC an 11-2 halftime cushion.
  • The teams traded scores for most of the second half, but the Hornets would come no closer than an 8-goal margin (13-5) late in the third quarter.
  • The Maroons outscored Shenandoah 3-1 in the final frame to squash any hopes of a rally.
