The Game Facts:
Scores: Guilford 8, Roanoke 7
Location: Greensboro, N.C. (Edgar H. McBane Field)

The Short story: The Roanoke College baseball team nearly rallied from a five-run deficit Tuesday, but Guilford College hung on for an 8-7 win in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play. Three Maroons belted home runs on the afternoon and all 15 runs were scored in just three innings.

How it happened:
*The Maroons started off the game with three runs in the first, as Corey Coogan led off the game with a home run and Kyle Moshier followed later in the frame with a two-run blast.
*The Quakers took an 8-3 lead with eight runs in the bottom of the second, the big blow on a grand slam from Nick Boles.
*Roanoke plated four runs in the fifth inning. Jonny Wall belted a three-run home run to left center and RC cut the lead to just one after scoring later in the frame on a wild pitch.
*The Maroons had a runner at third and one out in the sixth but couldn't tie the game.

Inside the numbers:
*The Roanoke bullpen was excellent against Guilford. Gardner Meeks, Trevor Orth and Anthony Sullivan combined for 6 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing just four hits and three walks while striking out seven.
*Coogan had three hits, including a double and a home run, and also walked.
*Moshier and Cayden Freels each had two hits and a stolen base.
*Ethan George was 3-4 with a double and two RBI for Guilford (19-19/11-9 ODAC).

Up Next:
*Roanoke (20-17/13-7) hosts Pfeiffer University Wednesday in Salem-Memorial Ballpark at 4 p.m. in the Maroons last non-conference game of the season and last regular-season home game.
