No. 13 Va. Wesleyan defeats Roanoke Softball

The Short story: The Roanoke College softball team was swept Sunday in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader 13-4 and 5-2 by Virginia Wesleyan University, ranked No. 13 in NCAA Division III this week, in games played at Bridgewater College.   

How it happened (Game 1):
*The Marlins scored two in the top of the first.
*Ally Brown brought home a run with a fielder's choice in the second but Virginia Wesleyan put the game away with five runs in the third and three each in the fourth and fifth frames.
*Carsyn Michaels had a two-run single as Roanoke scored three in the fifth.

How it happened (Game 2)
*VWU scored one in the first but RC tied the game in the bottom of the inning on a Madison Courts single.
*Courts homered in the fourth to tie the game 2-2 but the Marlins scored two in the sixth and one in the seventh.
*The Maroons loaded the bases in the seventh with two outs but couldn't cut into the lead.

Inside the numbers (Game 2):
*Lauren Hoffman joined Courts with two hits.
*Three Marlins (26-7/16-2) had two hits.  

Up Next:
*The Maroons (21-11/13-5 ODAC) travel to Southern Virginia University Tuesday at 3 p.m. for non-conference play.
