Maroons sweep SVU in softball non-conference doubleheader

The Short story: The Roanoke College softball team swept Southern Virginia University Tuesday 5-1 and 12-1 in a non-conference doubleheader from Harvey-Dryden Field.

How it happened (Game 1):
*Madison Courts doubled to bring home Heather McQueeney in the first to give Roanoke an early 1-0 lead.
*Freshman Allie Bell, in the first start of her collegiate career, put the game out of reach with a grand slam in the fifth.  
*SVU scored its run in the bottom of the fifth but got no closer.

Inside the numbers (Game 1):
*Freshman Baylee Compton scattered seven hits and three walks over six innings with four strikeouts to earn the win.
*Bell was 2-3 with a walk and Shaniya Lewis had two hits.   

How it happened (Game 2)
*Roanoke jumped on the Knights early in the nightcap, scoring three in the first and adding four in the third and three in the fourth.

Inside the numbers (Game 2):
*The Maroons had 13 hits and took advantage of five SVU errors in just four innings at the plate.
*McQueeney was 3-3 with a double and a stolen base while Lilly Burns was 2-3 with a triple, two runs and three RBI.
*Kate Houle was 2-2 with two runs scored as nine Maroons had hits in the contest.
*Lindsay Gedro threw four innings to earn the win, allowing four hits, no walks and one earned run.  

Up Next:
*The Maroons (23-11) host No. 7 Randolph-Macon College Wednesday in an ODAC doubleheader at 3 p.m. at the Botetourt Sports Complex.
