HOW IT HAPPENED

• Roanoke assumed a critical 3-0 advantage by dominating doubles action. Halle Fernstrum and Bella Gustafson defeated Ashley Hair and Emma Pinola 8-2 at No. 1, Victoria Rios and Lia Streibich bested Reese McAtee and Jordan Ottaviano 8-3 at No. 2, and Julia Bassett and Camryn Breedlove knocked off Sarah Wood and Elizabeth Horine 8-1 at No. 3.
• The teams split the six singles matches down the middle, giving the Maroons the overall victory. Roanoke was victorious at No. 2, where Fernstrum beat Pinola 6-2, 6-2; at No. 3, with Gustafson claiming a 6-0, 6-2 win over Ottaviano; and at No. 5, with Rios cruising past Horine by a 6-1, 6-0 count.
• Lynchburg won at No. 1, where Hair downed Streibich 6-3, 6-3; at No. 4, with McAtee defeating Bassett 6-2, 6-4; and at No. 6, where Wood earned an 8-7 (4) victory over Maddie Morrell.
