Maroons Take Two from Cougars

The DH Facts:
Scores: Roanoke 3, Averett 0; Roanoke 8, Averett 0 (5 innings)
Location: Troutville, Va. (Botetourt Sports Complex)

The Short story: The Maroons swept Averett in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) double header at the Botetourt Sports Complex. Roanoke took the opener 3-0 before breaking out the bats to cruise to an 8-0 win in game two. Maggie McCray threw a two-hit, 13K shutout to start the afternoon. The Maroons used 11 hits to score eight runs in completing the sweep.

How it happened:
*A Morgan Clark SAC fly got the Maroons on the board when she plated Sammie Murphy in the bottom of the 3rd. Molly Epperson made it 2-0 with an RBI single that scored Heather McQueeney.
*The Cougars loaded the bases in the fifth, but McCray used a strikeout and ground out to squash the potential rally. Roanoke took the opener 3-0.
*Roanoke would use 11 hits to score eight runs in closing out the Cougars in a shortened game two.
*Lindsay Gedro got the win, going five innings for her 5th win of the season.
  

Inside the numbers (Game 1):
*McCray gave up two hits and struck out 13 on her way to her fifth win of the season.
*Epperson was 2-3 with a pair of RBI while McQueen was 2-3 with two runs scored.
*Kate Houle was a perfect, 3-3.
*Grace Watlington and Angela Rodriguez accounted for the two Cougar hits.

Inside the numbers (Game 2):
*A SAC fly and fielder's choice put RC in front. One inning later, Katelyn Craghead delivered a 2-run double to make it 4-0.
*The Maroons would be up 7-0 and an RBI on her first collegiate hit, Carsyn Michaels ended the game. 
*Gedro allowed three hits while recording three strikeouts for the win.
*Mackenzie Newcomb, Hannah Zabik, and Molly George each recorded one hit for the Cougars.

Up Next:
*The Maroons (15-7/7-1) travel to Winchester for a double header against Shenandoah on Saturday with game one scheduled to start at 1:00pm.
