The Short Story: The No. 16 Maroons pulled away late for another key non-conference women's lacrosse win at Kerr Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Roanoke took an early 2-1 lead on goals from Grace Koutouzis and Sydney Harrison. The Owls answered with a 3-goal run, including a pair of scores from Kate Lengel, to go in front 4-2 with 6:14 remaining in the opening frame.
  • Kenyon led 5-3 later in the first quarter, but markers from Maddie McDonald and Libby Bowman canceled out that advantage and pulled RC even at 5-5 by the end of the period. The Maroons would not trail again for the rest of the afternoon.
  • Raegan Becker and Bowman fired the opening salvos of the second quarter to give Roanoke a 7-5 edge. The teams traded goals down the stretch, and the Maroons held a 9-8 lead at halftime.
  • Ali Hatfield tied things up at 9-9 for the Owls on a goal with 13:29 to play in the third. Bowman and Zoe Blair scored back-to-back to put Roanoke ahead 11-9, but two straight Mallory Brophy markers knotted the score at 11-11 with 6:35 remaining in the period.
  • But the Maroons took over from there, closing the stanza on a 3-0 run and taking a 14-11 lead on Koutouzis' goal with 1:44 to go. The Owls pulled to within two (14-12) on a Blythe Karras goal early in the fourth quarter, but scores from Tiernan Connor and Bowman inside the final five minutes iced the win.
