THE GAME FACTS

The Short Story: Roanoke jumped out to a big early lead and cruised to a 21-9 victory over visiting Messiah on Tuesday afternoon.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Maroons scored the first four goals of the game and assumed an 8-1 advantage by the end of the first period. Seven different RC players scored in the opening frame, which closed with back-to-back goals from Kate Loughran.
  • Roanoke's run continued into the second quarter, including player-down goals from Loughran and Grace Koutouzis and additional markers from Addison Schmidt and Sarah Brisson that stretched the lead to 12-1 with 5:36 remaining. The Maroons would take a 12-2 advantage into halftime.
  • The Falcons tallied four of the first five goals of the second half to trim the margin to 13-5 with 10:50 to go in the third period. But the Maroons countered with another 4-0 spurt, and the lead wouldn't dip down under double digits again.
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Loughran set a career-high with four goals, and she also notched an assist. Koutouzis tallied two goals and four assists.
  • Libby Bowman chipped in two goals and one assist, while Raegan Becker also scored twice. Brisson, Tiernan Connor, Soria Ebert and Sydney Harrison each recorded one goal and one assist.
  • Natalie Mason paced the RC defense with five caused turnovers and four ground balls. Sophia Chickering tallied seven draw controls, and Maddie McDonald posted six draw controls and one goal.
  • The Maroons held a 27-17 advantage in shots, an 18-13 edge on the draw circle, and a 16-11 lead in ground balls.
