Fowler Reaches NCAA Finals in Both 60m, 200m

The Basics
Event: NCAA Division III Indoor Championships
Location: Virginia Beach, Va. | Virginia Beach Sports Center

The Lead: Brady Fowler broke his own school records and advanced to the championship races in two sprint events on day one of the Division III indoor national meet in Virginia Beach.

Day One Highlights:
  • Fowler started the afternoon with a program-record time of 6.81 seconds in the preliminary heats of the 60m, eclipsing his own mark of 6.82 seconds that he set in the prelims at the ODAC indoor championships in February. He finished third in Heat 1, and his time was the seventh-fastest overall.
  • Fowler then accomplished the same feat in the 200m, completing the prelims with a time of 21.67 seconds. That shattered the previous Roanoke record of 22.00 seconds, which he established at the Joe LaRocco Invitational in Salem last month. He came in third in Heat 2 and also landed in seventh place overall.
  • The Roanoke junior is one of eight athletes in each event who qualified for the finals.
  • This will mark Fowler's first trip to a championship race at nationals. He competed in the prelims of the 60m at the 2023 NCAA indoor meet, as well as the prelims in both the 100m and 200m at last spring's outdoor championships.
  • Sam Blaskowski of Wisconsin-La Crosse heads the field in the 60m with a mark of 6.66 seconds, while Eric Gregory of Gallaudet leads the group of 200m qualifiers with a time of 21.36 seconds.
Up Next: Fowler will compete in the finals for both events in Virginia Beach on Saturday. The 60m dash is slated for 3:35 p.m., while the 200m race will start at 5:30 p.m.
