Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Fast Start Propels Maroons to ODAC Victory at Bridgewater

THE GAME FACTS
Score: Roanoke 16, Bridgewater 7
Location: Bridgewater, Va.

The Short Story: The 15th-ranked Roanoke women's lacrosse team scored 10 first-quarter goals en route to a 16-7 conference road win over the Eagles.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Maroons bagged four of the game's first five goals, with a marker from Grace Koutouzis putting them ahead 4-1 with 9:52 to play in the first period. After an Annika Benson score brought Bridgewater to within 4-2, Roanoke reeled off the final six goals of the quarter, taking a 10-2 lead when Kate Loughran found the back of the cage in the closing seconds.
  • The Maroons then outscored BC 3-1 in the second period, and Nicole Harrison's player-up goal at the 4:27 mark would send RC into the break with a 13-3 advantage.
  • Sarah Brisson put the Maroons up 15-4 on a goal with 7:04 left in the third period. The Eagles would counter with three consecutive tallies, trimming the gap to 15-7 on a Lauren Roberts marker with 7:16 to play.
  • But Roanoke's huge halftime cushion proved too much to overcome. The Maroons held the Eagles off the board down the stretch, and Addison Widmer tacked on another insurance goal with 5:18 to go to provide the final margin.
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Koutouzis posted seven points, finishing with three goals and four assists, while Loughran notched three goals and a pair of helpers. All 12 of their combined points came in the first half.
  • Tiernan Connor added one goal and two assists. Raegan Becker and Maddie McDonald each scored twice, and Sydney Harrison tallied one goal and one assist.
  • Sophia Chickering collected nine draw controls to help the Maroons claim an 18-8 edge on the circle. Keely Dent and Addison Schmidt each caused two turnovers, and Reaginn Bingaman scooped up three ground balls.
  • Roberts accounted for over half of Bridgewater's offense, recording three goals and one assist, and Benson had two markers. Maisen Jenkins took over in goal at halftime, registering nine saves while allowing just three goals across the final 30 minutes.
  • The Maroons outshot the Eagles 44-14 and forced 23 BC turnovers. Roanoke also won the ground ball battle 20-13.
