The Short story: Despite a gem on the mound from senior righthander Jon Rossi, Pfeiffer University scored late to defeat the Roanoke College baseball team 3-2 in non-conference play Tuesday.

How it happened:
*Spencer Rhoads singled in the second to bring home Tucker Schiavoni and put Roanoke ahead 1-0.
*Pfeiffer took advantage of a Maroon error in the bottom of the frame to take a 2-1 lead.  
*Corey Coogan came home on a Jonny Wall double in the seventh to tie the game, but the Falcons bought home what proved to the be the winning run in the eighth on a fielder's choice.

Inside the numbers:
*Rossi allowed just one earned run over his seven innings, scattering seven hits with no walks and five strikeouts.
*Coogan and Dylan Bonzon each had two hits for Roanoke.
*Rhoads had a hit and a walk.
*Robbie Brown was 3-3 with two RBI for Pfeiffer (7-8).
