Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Roanoke Outduels F&M for 17-15 Men’s Lacrosse Win

THE GAME FACTS
Score: Roanoke 17, Franklin & Marshall 15
Location: Salem, Va.

The Short Story: Luke Kammerman set the program's career scoring record, and the Maroons took control of a tight game in the fourth quarter to earn the non-conference victory at Kerr Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The teams traded goals in the opening minutes, but three straight Roanoke markers – netted by Luca Docking, Clayton Bewick and Noah Goad – put the home side up 6-3 with 2:46 to play in the first quarter.
  • The Diplomats tallied the final two scores of the period, and they tied the score at 6-6 on a Kyle Russell goal in the opening minutes of the second stanza. Wyatt Whitlow answered to put RC in front 7-6, but F&M would hold Roanoke off the scoreboard for over 10 minutes of game time, gradually building up a 9-7 lead.
  • Docking broke the drought with 2:08 left in the second quarter. Following a Dillon Mannix score for the Diplomats, RT Williamson bagged his first career goal in the closing seconds of the first half, trimming F&M's advantage to 10-9 at the break.
  • After Kai Kelly opened the third-quarter scoring to put Franklin & Marshall ahead 11-9, the Maroons countered with three straight goals, and a Luke Kammerman tally at the 7:44 mark put RC up 12-11. The teams then alternated scores for the rest of the period, which ended with the score knotted at 13-13.
  • Whitlow gave Roanoke the lead for good on a goal with 12:24 left in the game, and he added another to make it 15-13 with 7:42 to play. Liam Timmins pulled one back for F&M with 7:00 to go, but goals from Quinn Evans and Bewick extended RC's lead to 17-14. The Maroons' defense would come up with several key stops down the stretch to help preserve the win.
