Maroons Ease Past Centre in Home Men’s Lacrosse Win

THE GAME FACTS

The Short Story: Luke Kammerman scored a career-best six goals as Roanoke rolled to a 17-6 victory over Centre (Ky.) at Kerr Stadium.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The game was tied at 1-1 early on, but the Maroons quickly took command by reeling off six unanswered first-quarter goals. Luca Docking notched three of those markers as RC built up a 7-1 advantage, and the Maroons led 7-2 by the end of the period.
  • The Colonels pulled within four (8-4) on David Caldwell's goal at the 10:06 mark of the second quarter. But from that point, the Maroons would hold Centre off the scoreboard for over 30 minutes of game time, eventually crafting a double-digit lead.
  • RC's 9-4 halftime advantage swelled to 13-4 by the end of third quarter, which featured goals from four different Maroons.
  • Roanoke extended the gap to 15-4 on Kammerman's sixth goal of the afternoon, which came with 10:56 remaining. The teams traded scores down the stretch to create the final margin.
BY THE NUMBERS
  • One game after setting the program's points record, Kammerman established a new career mark in the goal column. He had scored five goals on four previous occasions during his tenure in Salem.
  • Making his first start of the season, Taylor Lewis recorded 13 saves with just five goals allowed in 54:40 between the pipes.
  • Docking and Wyatt Whitlow each notched three goals and one assist, and Docking also led the team with five ground balls. Quinn Evans contributed two assists, while Jay Frye tallied four ground balls, two caused turnovers and one goal.
  • Ryan Black led the Colonels with two goals, and Caldwell posted one goal and one assist. Hayden Burns made 11 saves with 11 goals allowed in 48:18 of action.
  • Roanoke outshot Centre 55-39 and held a 34-21 advantage in ground balls. The Colonels won 16-of-27 faceoffs in the game.
