HOW IT HAPPENED

• Roanoke held a 2-1 lead through doubles play. Halle Fernstrum and Bella Gustafson secured an 8-4 win over Emma Nesselrodt and Jolexie Whetzel at No. 1, while Lia Streibich and Victoria Rios knocked off Emily Wylie and Ryan Roeber 8-2 at No 2.
• The Eagles notched a point at No. 3 doubles, where Emma Staton and Raea Crabill defeated Julia Bassett and Camryn Breedlove 8-6.
• The Maroons then snagged victories in all six singles flights to pull away for the win. Streibich downed Nesselrodt 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1, Fernstrum rolled past Wylie 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2, Gustafson dispatched Roeber 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3, Bassett overcame Whetzel 6-2, 5-7, 15-13 at No. 4, Rios bested Staton 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5, and Breedlove defeated Crabill 6-7 (4), 4-1 (retired) at No. 6.
