The Short story:
The Roanoke College softball team took the first game of a non-conference doubleheader 7-6 Monday against Maryville College (Tenn.) in dramatic fashion but the Scots rallied to win the nightcap 9-2.

How it happened:
*The Maroons opened a 4-1 lead after three innings of the opener but Maryville came back with two in the fourth and three in the sixth to go ahead 6-5.
*Freshman Shaniya Lewis belted a two-run, two-out pinch-hit home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to put Roanoke back ahead and fellow freshman Baylee Compton made the one-run lead stick, forcing a line out to end the game.
*The visitors used four-run first and fifth innings to take control of the nightcap.

Inside the numbers:
* Madison Courts was 2-2 with a home run and three runs scored in the first game. Jordyn DiFava was 2-3 with a double and an RBI.
*Adriana Rivera tripled and finished with two hits in game two. Courts again had two hits, including a double, and Lilly Burns had two hits. Morgan Clark drew two walks.
*Sara Koonce doubled, homered and had five RBI for Maryville (10-5) in the nightcap.
