The Short story: The Roanoke College baseball team swept Eastern Mennonite University Sunday in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader, 8-2 and 12-3 in Salem Memorial Ballpark.
How it happened (Game 1):
*Roanoke pushed a run across in the fifth inning on a
Corey Coogan sacrifice fly to break a scoreless tie.
*
Nate Chown blasted a grand slam over the left field fence the help the Maroons break the game open an inning later with five runs.
*RC plated an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh to make the score 7-1 as
Hayden Giordano doubled to bring home
Nate Prince. Prince singled in
Jonny Wall in the eighth.
Inside the numbers (Game 1):
*
Thomas Burgess threw a complete game for Roanoke, scattering seven hits and one walk for two earned runs and five strikeouts.

Dylan Bonzon had two hits, as did Chown, Prince and Giordano.
*Coogan, Wall and
Justyn Steens each had a hit and a walk.
*Alex Gulisano had two hits for the Royals.
How it happened (Game 2):
*The Maroons took an early 5-0 lead after two, scoring one in the first and four in the second.
*After EMU scored two runs in the top of the third, Roanoke's
Jack Fehlner lofted a solo home run to left field to make the score 6-2.
*RC added two more in the fifth and three in the sixth, two on bases loaded walks, and scored its 12
th run in the seventh frame.
Inside the numbers (Game 2):
*Schiavoni finished 3-4 with a double and Fehlner added two walks to his long ball.
*Giordano was 2-4 and
Hunter von Zelowitz was 2-3.

Gardner Meeks tossed five scoreless innings of relief to earn the win, allowing just two hits and no walks with four strikeouts. Â

Wes Hellings got the start for Roanoke and struck out six in four innings.
