The Short story: Despite home runs from
Hayden Giordano and
Hunter von Zelowitz, Maryville College defeated the Roanoke College baseball team 7-3 in non-conference play Tuesday.
How it happened:
*Roanoke opened a 1-0 lead in the first frame on a
Jonny Wall sacrifice fly.
*Maryville tied the game with one run in the bottom of the first before Giordano and von Zelowitz hit solo homers in the fourth to give RC a 3-1 edge.
*The Scots plated three runs each in the fifth and sixth innings to pull away.
Inside the numbers:
*Wall and Giordano each had two hits, while Giordano and von Zelowitz each walked.

Jackson Murphy got the start on the hill and limited the hosts to one run over four innings allowing two hits and one walk with three strikeouts.

Jack Robinson tossed a perfect frame in the eighth with one strikeout.
*Jimmy Meredith was 2-3 with four RBI for Maryville (7-6).
