Cardinals Defeat Roanoke in Men’s Lacrosse

THE GAME FACTS
Score: Wesleyan 23, Roanoke 16

The Short Story: Wesleyan claimed a 23-16 victory over the Maroons at Tierney Field at the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame and Museum.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The game was tight early on. After Wesleyan took a 2-0 lead with 6:22 to play in the first quarter, Roanoke answered with goals from Sean Kennedy and Luca Docking to knot things up at 2-2 by the end of the stanza.
  • The teams traded scores early in the second period, with a Julian Kammerman marker tying the score at 4-4 with 8:51 to go. But the Cardinals closed the first half on a 5-1 run, assuming a 9-5 advantage at the break.
  • Wesleyan then scored eight of the first 10 goals of the second half, pushing the margin to 17-7 with 1:59 remaining in the third quarter.
  • The Maroons would trim the gap down to six on two occasions in the fourth period, but could come no closer to erasing the deficit.
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Docking matched his career-high with six goals, and he also added one assist.
  • Wyatt Whitlow totaled three goals and two helpers, while Luke Kammerman recorded one goal and three assists. Kennedy and Noah Bell chipped in two goals apiece, and Julian Kammerman finished with one goal and one assist.
  • C.K. Giancola led the Cardinals with six goals, and James Bailey totaled four goals and three assists. Ben Burns bagged a hat trick, while Jack Raba tallied four assists. Sam Jewett played all 60 minutes in goal and registered 14 saves.
  • Wesleyan held a 55-51 advantage in shots and a 39-32 edge in ground balls. The Cardinals also won 25-of-41 faceoffs in the game.
