WildCats Take Down Roanoke in Women’s Basketball

THE GAME FACTS
Score: Randolph 69, Roanoke 52
Location: Lynchburg, Va.

The Short Story: Randolph used a big second half to snap the Maroons' winning streak in an ODAC women's hoops matchup in Lynchburg.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first quarter featured plenty of back-and-forth action, as Roanoke recovered from an early 5-0 deficit to take a 13-7 advantage on a pair of Rose Sande free throws with 58 seconds remaining.
  • The Maroons remained in front for the duration of the second period, going ahead 19-12 on a Mariah Cain basket at the 8:30 mark. RC led by that same 7-point margin (27-20) later in the period, but the WildCats clawed to within 28-26 by halftime.
  • Jessica Jennings gave Randolph the lead for good on a 3-pointer just 32 seconds into the third quarter, part of an 8-0 WildCat run to open the second half.
  • The Maroons closed to within 40-37 on a layup from Cain with 3:49 to go, but Randolph capped the period with a 10-2 stretch to assume a 50-39 lead. The WildCats maintained a double-digit margin throughout the fourth period in avenging a road loss against Roanoke from December.
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Cain scored a career-high 13 points off the bench to pace the Maroons, knocking down 6-of-8 shots from the field and securing seven rebounds.
  • Sande tallied 11 points, while Lauren Keel finished with 10 markers. Madison Nereu and Kate Littlejohn added nine points apiece, with Nereu also snaring eight rebounds.
  • Jennings led the WildCats with a game-high 21 points, also notching five assists and seven steals. Teniyah Crenshaw-Patterson added 16 points, and Kylie Stark contributed 12 points and five assists.
  • Randolph shot 15-of-27 from the field (55.6 percent) from the floor after halftime, including a 5-of-8 mark from three-point range. The WildCats also limited the Maroons to a 34.5 percent shooting clip (19-of-55) for the game.
  • Roanoke saw its season-best four-game winning streak come to a close.
