The Short story: The Roanoke College women's lacrosse team led 9-6 Saturday, but Christopher Newport University rallied for an 11-9 victory in non-conference play.

How it happened:
*The Captains opened a 2-0 lead in the first quarter but tallies from Grace Koutouzis and Maddie Stopkoski evened the game after one period.
*The Maroons had four different goal scorers in the second period to take a 6-4 lead at halftime.
*CNU cut the lead to 7-6 midway through the third quarter, but Maddie McDonald and Libby Bowman found the back of the net to give RC a 9-6 lead heading into the final period.
*The Captains outscored Roanoke 5-0 in the fourth quarter to earn the victory.

 Inside the numbers:
*Koutouzis had three goals for Roanoke.
*Bowman tallied a goal and three assists.
*Nicole Harrison, Tiernan Connor and Tracey Benzing also scored.
*Kyleigh Chickering made nine saves in net and McDonald had six draw controls.
*Julia Iapicca had six scored for CNU (2-0).
