The Short story: The Roanoke College women's lacrosse team, ranked No. 16 this week by USA Lacrosse, hung on for a 12-11 win Saturday afternoon against visiting St. Mary's College of Maryland. The Maroons led or were tied the entire game, but couldn't extend the lead past three.
How it happened:
*Roanoke senior midfielder
Libby Bowman scored the first goal of the season in the first two minutes of the game. RC opened a 4-2 lead but the Seahawks tied it at four by the end of the first period.
*Roanoke took a 7-6 lead at intermission and still had a one-goal advantage (10-9) heading into the fourth period.

Grace Koutouzis scored early in the fourth period, and after a score from St. Mary's,
Tiernan Connor netted a goal to put Roanoke ahead 12-10. The Seahawks climbed back within one with a tally with 3:28 left, which ended the scoring for both teams. Koutouzis forced a turnover and gained possession in the final 30 seconds to seal the Maroon win.
