Sande Nets 1,000th Point as Maroons Down Hollins

The Short Story: Rose Sande reached the career scoring milestone as Roanoke picked up a 77-61 ODAC win over visiting Hollins.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Maroons gradually built up the lead early on, getting five points apiece from Mariah Cain and Parker Childress en route to a 14-8 advantage after the first quarter.
  • Sande came to life in the second period, pouring in nine points in the frame to get to 997 for her career. Kate Littlejohn also had seven markers in the quarter, and the Maroons connected on 9-of-14 field goals and hit all six of their free throws in the stanza as they stretched the margin to 39-20 by halftime.
  • Sande joined the 1,000-point club by hitting a 3-pointer to open the second half.
  • The lead continued to swell for Roanoke. Madison Nereu tossed in eight points in the third quarter, and an Ingrid Moraes bucket with 33 seconds left pushed the advantage to 63-36.
  • The Maroons would lead by as many as 30 points (68-38) in the fourth quarter before a late Hollins rally provided the final margin.
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Nereu recorded her third straight double-double, finishing with game-highs of 14 points, 11 rebounds and five assists.
  • Sande closed the night with 12 points, giving her an even 1,000 in 107 career appearances.
  • Cain and Littlejohn notched 10 points apiece. Childress and Maggie Houpt each contributed nine points, and Lauren Keel totaled eight points and nine rebounds.
  • Sarah Morales led Hollins with 14 points. Noelani Carter scored 13, and Cabria Mutz chipped in 12 points.
  • The Maroons shot 49.2 percent (29-of-59) from the field, 8-of-15 from three-point range and 11-of-13 at the foul line. Roanoke also outrebounded Hollins 43-33.
