Women's basketball grabs road victory on Tuesday night

FREERICKSBURG, Va. - The Roanoke College women's basketball team found themselves back in the win column on Tuesday night with a 58-42 road victory over Mary Washington.

How It Happened 

  • Nadia Snesarev got things started for the Maroons by draining a three to open the scoring. After building a lead, Roanoke was able to hold off a UMW push and go into the second with a 14-11 lead. 

  • RC stayed hot in the second, outscoring Mary Washington 17-11 to go into halftime at 31-22. 

  • UMW staged a comeback to bring the game within a point. The Maroons though capitalized on three pointers and free throws to stay ahead and make it a 44-36 advantage heading into the fourth. 

  • Freshman Reese Fritz made three straight from behind the arc, which in tandem with contributions from Paige Breuer and Kiley Hylton, ended up being enough to solidify the win for Roanoke. 
       

Notes and Notables 

  • Fritz went 5-8 in three pointers to put up a career high and team leading 15 points. 

  • Fritz's fellow freshman, Paige Breuer, was the only other player to tally double digit points with 13. 

  • Mariah Cain continues to dominate in the rebound and assist games, pulling eight off the board and dishing out six helpers. 

  • Nadia Snesarev was also effective in the defensive game, grabbing six rebounds. 

  • Cain also recorded the teams only two blocks in the contest. 

  • Fritz was also the team leader in steals with three. 

Up Next 
RC continues their road stint on Saturday (Dec. 7) when they make the trip back to Ashland for an ODAC matchup against Randolph-Macon at 2:00 pm.
