Maroons' third quarter push enough to defeat Methodist

SALEM, Va. - The Roanoke College women's basketball completed the comeback thanks to another big third quarter from the Maroons and took a 52-46 victory over Methodist.

How It Happened 

  • It was a back and forth first quarter, but Methodist gained an edge towards the end to take a 12-9 lead into the second. 

  • The Monarchs kept their advantage in the second, outscoring Roanoke 17-14, to take a 29-23 lead into the half. 

  • For the second game in a row, the Maroons came out firing in the third quarter and racked up 20 points to take the lead going into the fourth at 43-38. 

  • Methodist attempted to close the gap in the fourth, but RC held them at bay to make the final score 52-46. 
       

Notes and Notables 

  • Junior Mariah Cain recorded her second double-double of the season, tallying a team leading 12 points and 10 rebounds. 

  • Cain also notably drew 10 fouls in the game. 

  • Paige Breuer topped the team in assists with four, the most helpers she's dished out in game this season.  

  • Breuer also tallied a career high seven rebounds in the contest. 

  • Kiley Hylton also shot a solid 4-6 FGs to lead the team in FG% and put up eight points. 

  • Nadia Snesarev matched Cain in steals with two. The pair account for two-thirds of the squad's steals on the day. 

  • Roanoke's third quarter revival was thanks in part to the squad going 4-9 from behind the arc and 4-5 at the charity stripe. 

Up Next 
The Maroons are back at home after the holidays to host the Susan Dunagan Holiday Classic on Dec. 29 & 30. They open the tournament with a 5:00 pm matchup against Maryville.
