Breuer tallies 23 as women's basketball takes win over Maryville

SALEM, Va. - Freshman Paige Breuer of the women's basketball team recorded a team and career high 23 points as the Maroons took a 70-59 victory over Maryville on Sunday.

How It Happened 

  • The Maroons got off to a good start, scoring first and ending up with an 18-8 lead going into the second. 

  • Maryville made their push in the second, cutting the deficit down to five before the half. Roanoke went into the break with a 34-29 lead. 

  • While the Scots were able to tie it two-thirds of the way through the third quarter, RC scored four to end the quarter and go into the fourth with a 48-44 lead. 

  • After being outscored in the middle two periods, Roanoke won tallied 22 to Maryville's 15 to take home the 70-59 win. 
       

Notes and Notables 

  • The Maroons never turned over the lead once they gained it early in the first quarter. 

  • Breuer's 23 points matched Ashley Fowler's point total against Wilkes for the most points scored by a player in a single game this season. 

  • Breuer's offensive night included going 6-11, 4-8 from behind the arc, and 7-8 from the free throw line. 

  • Junior Mariah Cain led the team in rebounds with seven, while Breuer and Peyton Kirchner were right on her tail with six each. 

  • Cain also topped the squad in helpers with four. Ingrid Moraes also was effective in her distribution, tallying three assists on the evening. 

  • Sophomore Alicea Farmer combined with two steals a piece to make up the team's steal total in the game. 

  • Kirchner and Cain had three blocks each to lead the Maroons in the category.

Roanoke rounds out their slate of the Susan Dunagan Holiday Classic tomorrow at 5:00 pm when they face-off against Oglethorpe.
