Field hockey rolls to dominate Senior Day victory

SALEM, Va. - The Roanoke College field hockey team took home a senior day win over Eastern Mennonite to round out their regular season schedule.

Key Moment

  • The Maroons tallied five first half goals to give them a strong lead for the rest of the game.

How It Happened 

  • After the EMU goalie kicked a ball away, Krista DeModna picked it up and put a ball into the middle. The ball slipped past a few defenders and found Tess Taloumis who slipped it past the goalie for the second goal. 

  • Katherine Seal sent a ball in from the top of the arc less than four minutes into the second period that found Krista DeModna. DeModna was then able to sneak the ball in to make in 3-0. 

  • Katherine Seal sent a ball into the middle of the arc that kicked off a player a fell perfectly to Carsyn Poppa who buried it for the fourth goal. 

  • Maggie Beach found a loose ball after a Besselaar shot. Beach then had an open goal to finish off the seventh goal of the day. 

Notes and Notables 

  • Seven different players scored for the Maroons. 

  • Every Roanoke player saw action in the game. 

  • Senior Peyton Bradford tallied the first goal of her career in the second half. 

  • Mountcastle also recorded her first career goal in the game. 

  • Taloumis and DeModna's goals were the fourth of the season for both players while Poppa and Beach scored their third of the year. 

  • DeModna had the first multi-assist game of her career with her helpers on the first two goals. 

  • Sophia van Holst registered the first assist of her career on Bradford's goal.
     
  • Roanoke had the advantage in shots, 31-0, and penalty corners, 20-2
     
  • Madison Wingerter and Megan Keller split time in goal but neither needed to make a save in the contest.

Up Next 

RC will likely make the ODAC tournament as they are currently tied for sixth in the standings with Randolph-Macon who the Maroons beat in the regular season, 1-0. They would then play on the road at the No. 3 seed on Tuesday (Nov. 5). The complete tournament field will be set at the conclusion of play this weekend.
