Key Moment

  • The Maroons got out to a quick start in the first quarter to put Wilkes in a hole that they were unable to climb out of.

How It Happened

  • Roanoke dominated the first quarter, thanks in part to their excellence at the three-point line. The squad went 6-11 from beyond the arc in the first, four of which came from sophomore Ashley Fowler, to make the score 27-4.

  • RC continued to hold strong defensively while continuing to make progress offensively in the second quarter. They only allowed eight points in the quarter while scoring 11 of their own, bringing the score to 38-12.

  • Wilkes put in more of an offensive effort after the half, but the Maroons kept their foot on the gas, logging their second 20+ point quarter of the game. Through three the score was 63-28.

  • Roanoke rebounded well in the fourth quarter, securing 20 rebounds, to thwart any hope of a comeback by Wilkes.

Notes and Notables

  • Junior Mariah Cain shined on both sides of the ball, tallying a double-double with 12 points and her team leading 14 rebounds in the game.

  • Cain's 14 rebounds were a new career high. Her previous high was seven at Randolph last season.
  • Sophomore Ashley Fowler led the way points wise. She went 8-15, including 6-10 from the behind three-point line, for 23 total points.

  • Fowler almost hit the double-double threshold as she brought down nine rebounds.

  • Freshmen Reese Fritz and Katie Lam also hit double digit points on the night, putting up 11 apiece.

  • Kiley Hylton was the only other player besides Cain to reach double figures in rebounds. She had eight offensive and two defensive rebounds.

  • Nadia Snesarev and Cain tied for assists with six each while Cain also led in steals with four.

  • RC had the advantage in field goals, 29-11, free throws, 10-8, and rebounds 61-33.
