VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Roanoke College field hockey team fell to the Virginia Wesleyan Marlins 2-0 in the squad's first conference game of the season.

How It Happened 

• Virginia Wesleyan scored two goals in the span of five minutes in the third period. 

Notes and Notables 

• Mary Wisher, Grace Vernarelli, Jessie Besselaar, and Maddy Holmes all recorded shots. Holmes led the way with two.

• Roanoke had the advantage in corners, 9-3, while Virginia Wesleyan had the advantage in shots, 8-5. 

• Goaltender Madison Wingerter made four saves in the game.
