The Short Story:Â After a scoreless first half, the Roanoke field hockey team found the back of the goal less than eight minutes into the second half for the 1-0 win over Centre on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The two teams found themselves in a scoreless stalemate for the first half with Centre taking five shots to four for the Maroons.
- It wasn't until late in the 38th minute that Tess Taloumis was able to put the ball behind the Colonels goalkeeper for the 1-0 lead at 37:51.
- With defense taking over again for both teams, the Maroons stayed ahead for the 1-0 win.
BY THE NUMBERS
- The win over Centre was the first for the Maroons in over 10 years.
- Madison Wingerter played all 60 minutes in cage and made four saves against the Colonels.
