HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams used small runs in the first set to score their early points. The Pride went ahead 7-2 before the Maroons took their first lead at 11-10. Roanoke used another five point unanswered stretch to jump out 20-14, a lead they held on to for the 25-18 set one win
- Set two saw the score tied up at 10-10 before a 9-0 stretch by GC gave them a nine-point cushion. Despite the Maroons outscoring their opponent 8-6 the rest of the way, the Pride matched the first set score 25-18 to level the match at one set apiece.
- Even with a 5-0 early run by GC, the Maroons chipped away throughout midway portion to take a late lead 20-19. The Pride would take a 22-21 lead before a 4-1 run by the Maroons gave them the 25-23 set three win.
- Neither team found a large lead to start with Roanoke holding the biggest at 15-11 before the Pride began to chip away in their own set and would also win four of the final five points to level the match for a second time with a 25-23 set four win.
- With the deciding fifth set died at five, GC would be the one to force the changing ends of the court with a 4-0 to take a 9-5 lead. But a 5-1 run would bring the set even again at 10-10. Trading the next six points, the Maroons would have the first match point at 14-13 and again at 15-14, but third time was the charm when back-to-back Greensboro attack errors gave the Maroons the 17-15 set five win and the match 3-2
