The Short Story: The Roanoke women's volleyball team hosted the annual, two-day Maroon Classic and came away with an even split in their four matches. The Maroons picked up wins over NC Wesleyan and Ferrum.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Battling Bishops took an early lead in set one before Roanoke began to chip away and eventually won 15 of the final 20 points to take a 1-0 set lead.
- The second set saw Roanoke take the early lead this time before NCWC tried to chip away but the Maroons kept them at bay for the 2-0 set lead.
- The two teams opened the third set going back and forth until a the Maroons went on a 7-0 run to set up set point before claiming it four points later and the match 3-0

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Kirchner led the Maroons with 10 kills
- Draper finished with the team-high 14 assists.
- Brynlee Burrill and Sydney Harrison reached double-figure digs with 12 and 10, respectively.
MATCH 3 FACTS
Score: Methodist 3, Roanoke 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After an early back and forth, the Maroons went on an 11-1 run late to take a lead they didn't give up for the set one win.
- The Monarchs stagged a comeback in the second and third sets to take the match lead 2-1 with a pair of set wins.
- The fourth set saw the teams play evenly throughout with neither having more than four point lead. A kill by Rylee Mayer closed out the set and leveled the match a set apiece.
- In the deciding set, Methodist and Roanoke couldn't score more than two points in a row nor take more than a two-point lead. The Maroons pulled within one at 11-10 before the Monarchs closed out with four-straight points to take the set and match.

- Mayer, Clark, and Kirchner all reached double-figure kills with 13,12, and 12, respectively.
- Draper finished with 29 assists and Brown added 24.
- Johnston, Harrison, and Burrill each had double-figure digs with Johnston having the match-high 29.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Most of the first set saw a back and forth with the Maroons staking themselves a small lead. A 5-0 lead in the middle of the set saw them increase their gap enough to take the set and a 1-0 lead.
- The Panthers used a string of small runs early to take a 17-11 lead before the Maroons used their own runs and force extra points a block by Clark and Sara Waller closed out the set 26-25 and a 2-0 match lead.
- Early runs by Roanoke gave them the lead which they never gave up for an identical set score (25-17) as the first set for the 3-0 sweep
BY THE NUMBERS
- Clark and Kirchner both had the match-high nine kills
- Draper led the Maroons for the third time in the past four matches in assists with 21, also the match-high.
