The Short Story:  In their first ever meeting, the Roanoke men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 contest to Capital to wrap up the opening weekend of the 2023 season. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Comets scored a pair of goals midway way through the first half to take a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.
• Less than three minutes into the second half, Carter Laatsch found a streaking Florin Wyss, who fired a shot that was deflected off a Comet player trying to clear the ball for an own goal.
• Neither team was able to find an offensive goal the rest of the half as Capital took the win 2-1.

BY THE NUMBERS

• The Maroons fired 15 total shots against Capital, six were on goal. Harrison Kraus led the team with four shots, who of which were on goal.
• Denzel Marufu played all 90 minutes in goal, making one save.

UP NEXT

• Roanoke returns home next weekend to host the VBR Sports/Roanoke Invitational. The Maroons start off on Friday, Sept. 8 with a contest against Oglethorpe. Game time from Kerr Stadium is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
