Women's Soccer Wins Fourth in a Row, Downing Randolph-Macon 2-0

The Short Story:  The Roanoke women's soccer team opened up ODAC play in style with a 2-0 shut out over Randolph-Macon on Saturday afternoon at Kerr Stadium. The win was the Maroon's fourth in a row and second-straight shut out win.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Defense was the name of the game in the first half with neither side able to find the back of the net, keeping the game scoreless through the first 45 mintues. 
  • The second half saw the Maroons return to form as they out shot the Yellow Jackets 7-1.
  • Morgan O'Neill got Roanoke on the board first at 62:35, giving the Maroons what would become the game-winner.
  • Less than two minutes later Rebecca Carr scored an insurance goal for Roanoke at 64:13. 

BY THE NUMBERS

  • RMC had the 6-3 advantage in shots in the first half, but the strong second period for the Maroons saw the shot advantage flipped with Roanoke taking the 10-7 lead in the category.
  • Taylor Gallik came in relief of starter Hannah Aemisegger for the final 45 minutes, picking up her first win of the season, only needing to make one save for the win.

  • Roanoke plays its fifth-straight home game on Wednesday, Sept. 27 when it hosts Ferrum in a midweek ODAC contest. Game time with the Panthers is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Kerr Stadium
