The Short Story: The Roanoke women's volleyball team played its second home match in a row against Ferrum on Wednesday evening, this one for the ODAC standings. Once again the Maroons came away with a 3-0 shutout win over the Panthers at the Cregger Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first set saw Ferrum take a small early lead before the Maroons took it back. The two teams then went on trading points throughout the set until Roanoke got a set point at 24-21. The Panthers rallied off three straight to tie the score, but a Ferrum attack error and a kill by Peyton Kirchner gave the Maroons the 26-24 set one win.
- Roanoke jumped to an early 7-1 lead in the second set, a lead they would not let shrink to less than six and balloon to as many as 14 before the Maroons closed it out 25-16, taking a 2-0 match lead.
- Once again Roanoke took an early seven-point lead at 9-2, but Ferrum would use a pair of five and six point runs to take the lead 14-12 midway through the set. The teams traded points with the Maroons retaking the lead 20-18. After a Panther point, the Maroons closed out the set on a 5-1 run, 25-20 and the match 3-0.
BY THE NUMBERS
- The Maroons finished with 38 kills, led by Ryanna Clark's nine.
- Kylee Draper recorded another double-double with 19 assists and 11 digs.
UP NEXT
- Roanoke plays the first of two matches on back-to-back days on Friday, Sept. 22 when it welcomes Lynchburg to the Cregger Center at 6 p.m. The Maroons then host Randolph on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 1 p.m.
