The Short Story: The Roanoke women's volleyball team opened Day 2 of the Cougar Classic with a 3-0 sweep of Waynesburg in the first meeting ever between the two teams. The Maroons closed out action with a 3-0 setback to Bob Jones.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After Waynesburg won the first two points of the first set, Roanoke won the next 13, starting with a kill by Brynlee Burrill and capped with one from Sara Waller. Leading 17-11, The Maroons won the next seven for set point and sealed the set win three points later on a Rylee Mayer kill.
- The Yellow Jackets responded early in the second set, claiming the first five points before Roanoke chipped away and took their first lead of the set at 14-13, capping off a 4-0 run. Another 4-0 run two points later gave the Maroons the lead for good in the set and took a 2-0 match lead with a 25-21 set win.
- It was back and forth early in the third with Waynesburg having a 11-10 advantage before a 10-0 stretch by the Maroons set them up for the 25-15 set three win and the 3-0 sweep.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Clark had the match-high 14 kills in the win with both Peyton Kirchner and Mayer each adding six.
- Kylee Draper narrowly missed out on a second double-double of the season with 20 assists and nine digs for Roanoke
- Kirchner, Burrill, and Draper each had four aces while the Maroons finished with 15 as a team.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Due to errors in the program (through no fault of Roanoke or host Averett) play-by-play reporting is currently available.
- The Maroons dropped the first set to the Bruins 25-16 and the second set 25-19.
- BJU closed out the match with a 25-15 set three win.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Both Clark and Burrill had nine kills with each hitting .533 and .412, respectively.
- Aubrey Brown had 14 assists while Draper finished with 11.
- Payten Johnston had the team-high 11 digs against the Bruins.

- Roanoke stays on the road for a mid-week contest at Greensboro on Tuesday, Sept. 5 at 7 p.m. before returning home next weekend to host the annual Maroon Classic. The team opens with a pair of matches against NC Wesleyan and Salem (NC) on Friday, Sept. 8.
