Field Hockey Falls in Overtime at Hood

THE GAME FACTS
Score: Hood 2, Roanoke 1 OT
Location: Frederick, Md.

The Short Story:  After a scoreless first half, the Roanoke field hockey team got on the scoreboard first, but the Hood Blazers answered and sent the game into overtime. Just three minutes in the extra period and the Blazers were able to find the back of the cage for the 2-1 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • With the score tied at 0-0 after halftime, Hope Keller got the Maroons on the board first with a goal at 37:18.
  • Roanoke would keep the lead for just over 10 minutes before a Blazers goal at 47:54 leveled the game at a goal apiece. Neither team could find the back of the goal in the final 12 minutes of regulation, sending the game into overtime.
  • With the overtime periods played as 7v7, the Blazers were able to score first just 3:07 into overtime to escape with the 2-1 OT win.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Roanoke led in total shots, 8-7, while both teams made three saves.

  • Roanoke stays on the road next Saturday, Sept. 23 when they travel even further north to DeSales. Game time with the Bulldogs gets underway at 11:30 a.m. in Center Valley, Pa.
