Men's Soccer Gets 2-0 Shutout Win Over Greensboro

THE GAME FACTS
Score:
 Roanoke 2, Greensboro 0
Location: Salem, Va.

The Short Story:  After a scoreless first half, the Roanoke men's soccer team picked up its first win of season with a two-goal second half while holding Greensboro scoreless for the 2-0 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first half saw Roanoke control the ball most of the period with a nine to one shot advantage. However the Pride stopped all five shots on goal the faced as the two teams remained tied 0-0 as they headed into halftime.
  • However it didn't take long after the intermission for Ryan Pidgeon to find Harrison Kraus, as the Maroons pushed forward, onside who fired what would be the game-winning goal as the Greensboro goalie came out to try and stop the shot at 48:06.
  • Just 12 minutes later Pidgeon attempted his own shot from right in front of the goalie but a diving stop earned the Pride keeper a save, but he was unable to corral the ball as Kyle Butcher took the deflection and fired an insurance goal for the Maroons at 60:05.
BY THE NUMBERS
  • The Maroons led the Pride in shots (16-9), shots on goal (9-1), and corner kicks (4-1).
  • Luca Gustafson earned his first win of the season, playing all 90 minutes, only needing to make one save on the one shot on goal he faced
