The Short Story:  The Roanoke women's volleyball team opened ODAC play on Wednesday evening with a road contest at Guilford. Despite trailing 2-1, the Quakers came back and won the match 3-2 in five sets.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Roanoke led most of the first set and maintained a three-point lead at 21-18 late. GC then went on a 7-0 run to close out the set 25-21
• The Maroons used a 5-0 run and 6-0 run in the second to take a 16-8 lead and held on for the 25-17 set two win. 
• Roanoke never trailed in the third set, despite a number of times the Quakers were able to level the match. A Quaker service error and kill by Brynlee Burrill earned the team a 27-25 set three win and a 2-1 match lead. 
• Both teams used runs midway through the fourth, but the Quakers' final run was for the 25-21 set four win and sending the match to a fifth set.
• In the deciding set, GC took a 12-7 lead before the Maroons used a 4-1 run to pull within two at 13-11. But a pair of Quaker kills gave them the fifth set, 15-11

BY THE NUMBERS

• Sarah Waller led three Maroons in double-figure kills with 15. Ryanna Clark and Peyton Kirchner each had 12.
• Kylee Draper had her fourth double-double of the season with 28 assists and 15 digs.

• Roanoke returns home on Wednesday, Sept. 20 when they open continue ODAC play with a midweek contest against Ferrum. Game time with the Panthers is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
