Maroons Shutout Lynchburg in Non-ODAC Action

THE GAME FACTS
Score:
 Roanoke 2, Lynchburg 0
Location: Salem, Va.

The Short Story:  The Roanoke women's soccer team scored a goal in each half as they took down the defending ODAC Champion Lynchburg in non-conference action, 2-0, on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The teams each played a strong defense for the first 30 minutes before a streaking Rebecca Carr found MC Petrucelli on the far side of the goal box who fired a goal past the Hornets keeper for the 1-0 lead at 30:50.
  • The Roanoke defense held Lynchburg to just five shots in the second half, including a blocked shot off a Hornets teammate.
  • The Maroons kept the pressure on looking for an insurance goal most of the second half until Carr took a pass, dodged a defender, lifted the ball twice to herself before firing a goal at 85:00 giving the Maroons a 2-0 lead which they held onto for the shutout win.
BY THE NUMBERS
  • The Maroons led the Hornets in shots (11-9), shots on goal (6-5), and saves (5-4).
  • Hannah Aemisegger played the first 45 minutes in goal while Taylor Gallik played the final 45, making five saves.
  • The win marked only the six win over Lynchburg since 2000 and the third shutout win over the Hornets during that stretch.
UP NEXT
  • Roanoke continues their six-game home stand on Saturday, Sept. 16 when they host Pfeiffer at 5 p.m. in Kerr Stadium
