The Short Story:Â The Roanoke women's basketball team finished a quick two-game homestand with a 52-47 ODAC win over the visiting WildCats of Randolph on Wednesday night at the Cregger Center..
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The WildCats looked to take control in the first quarter but building a 17-13 lead after the first 10 minutes. The score was tied at 7-7 before Randolph went on an 10-0 run before back-to-back three-pointers by Alexa Kulakowski and Rose Sande cut the lead to just four.
- The second quarter saw the Maroons begin to chip away and tied the game on a Kate Littlejohn three-pointer with 5:35 left in the half, 21-21.The score would be tied two more times at 23-23 and 25-25, but a late layup by Sande gave the Maroons the 27-25 lead at the break.
- A cold shooting quarter by both teams in the third saw the WildCats tie the score up at 33-33 heading into the final 10 minutes.Â
- The fourth saw both teams battle for positioning early with the scored tied at 39-39 with 5:58 remaining. A jumper by Kulakowski and another three by Littlejohn saw the Maroons take a five-point lead. Randolph responded with their own 5-0 run to tie the score up at 44-44 with 3:58 left on the clock. A 8-0 by the Maroons put them ahead 52-44 with 14 seconds left thanks to a layup and two free throws by Sande, a layup by Madison Nereu, and a pair of free throws by Parker Childress. The WildCats got a three with nine seconds remaining but the Maroons finished with the 52-47 ODAC win.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Sande led the Maroons with 14 points while Littlejohn added 12 in the win.
- Nereu nearly had a double-double with 11 rebounds and eight points.Â

- The Maroons are back on the road this Saturday, Dec. 9 when they travel to take on Eastern Mennonite in their final ODAC contest of 2023 (calendar year). Game time with the Royals in Harrisonburg is scheduled for 2 p.m.
