HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The first half saw the Maroons maintain a lead through the first 10 minutes of the period. Ferrum took its first lead at 9:24 before the Maroons answered with two quick baskets to retake the lead at 9:09. The Panthers would get their second lead of the contest and extend it to four with 4:49 left. Roanoke responded once again and would build a six-point lead with 37 seconds remaining in the half before Ferrum cut it to three with eight seconds left. A half court shot by Joshua McClary as the buzzer sounded fell straight through to put the Maroons up 42-36 at the break.
  • It took over two minutes before either team was able to score with Patrick Clevenger hitting a three for Roanoke at 17:53. Over the next eight minutes the Maroons maintained their lead and pushed up to 11 at 10:02. Ferrum chipped away over the next three minutes by Roanoke put their lead back to 11 on a pair of free throws by Justin Kuthan at 7:10. However, cold shooting by the Maroons saw the Panthers dwindle down the lead and tied the game up 76-76 on a three with 13 seconds remaining. A last second layup would not fall for Roanoke as the teams headed to overtime.
  • The Maroons built a quick five-point lead just over a minute into the extra period. Ferrum would very slowly chip away and take a one point lead with 1:23 remaining. Trent Dawson mad a free throw with 1:03 left to tie the score at 82-82. The Panthers however would make a layup with 2.1 seconds remaining and stole the inbound ball to get the 84-82 over the Maroons.
