The Short Story:Â The Roanoke women's basketball team heads into Thanksgiving with 68-32 win over Gallaudet on Tuesday evening at the Bison Field House in Washington, D.C.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Maroon defense was on full display to start the first quarter as Roanoke scored the first 13 points of the game, capped by a Madison Nereu layup with 50 seconds remaining. The Bison would score a pair of baskets with 30 seconds left to pull within 11 heading into the second period with the Maroons leading 15-4.
- Gallaudet would attempt to come back in the second quarter, keeping even in scoring until Roanoke scored the final six points over the final two minutes of the half to take a 35-15 lead heading into the locker room.Â
- In the third, the Maroons would lead by as many as 29 with 2:28 left in the period, thanks to a jumper by Alexa Kulakowski. The Bison responded with the next five points to end the quarter to cut the Roanoke lead down to 24, 49-25.Â
- Despite it taking over a minute and a half to score the first points of the period, the Maroons would continue to extend their lead, outscoring the Bison 19-7 over the final 10 minutes, more than doubling up the home home team for the 68-32 win.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Kulakowski led 11 different Maroons in scoring with 14 points. She went six for eight from the floor.Â
- Jada Steele led the team with seven rebound, to go along with her six points. 13 different Roanoke players grabbed a rebound.Â
- The marked the first time Roanoke more than doubled-up an opponent since an 84-41 win over Hood on January 2, 2022
