The Short Story:Â The Roanoke women's basketball team picked up their first win of the season with a 73-49 win over Greensboro in the consolation game of the 2023 Jean Beamer Tip-Off Classic Sunday afternoon in the Cregger Center. For her efforts in both of the Maroons' games, Madison Nereu was named to the All-Tournament team.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first three minutes of the first quarter saw the teams play even when Greensboro made one of two free throws with 7:18 with the score tied up at 7-7. A 10-2 and 10-3 run over the remaining time in the quarter saw the Roanoke take a 27-12 lead into the next period.
- The Maroons would push their lead up to 21 with 5:39 left in the first half on a pair of made free throws by Kate Littlejohn. They would continue to stretch their lead up to 23 by the end of the second quarter on a jumper by Rose Sande with 1:15 remaining before the break, as Roanoke led 44-21.
- The third quarter was much more even throughout as the Pride would cut the lead down by one to 57-35 before going into the fourth.
- The final period saw the Maroons and Pride continue to play level with each other, but it was Roanoke that kept the advantage outscoring Greensboro 16-14, including leading by as many 32Â before claiming the 73-49 win.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Sande led all scorers with 15 points with Littlejohn and Alexa Kulakowski also reaching double-digits with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
- The Maroons out rebounded Greensboro 50-38 and was led by Nereu's 10 boards.Â
- The Roanoke bench outscored the Pride bench 32-8.

- Roanoke once again has a quick turnaround as they will travel to Washington D.C. to face off against the Bison of Gallaudet on Tuesday, Nov. 21. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
